In short
- Confirmed: One Piece is coming to Fortnite in the Treasure Hunters mini season, teased for 1 November. A short live event at the giant pirate chest is reported for 31 October.
- Confirmed: Geno is this season's villain, and Kado Thorne is back in Fortnite Reload.
- Our theory: Geno wants to build a "perfect reality", and if Kado Thorne fixes his time machine, Chapter 8 could merge different versions of Fortnite into one new island.
Fortnite Chapter 8 is getting closer, and the clues are stacking up: a Masked Man with a treasure chest, a villain trying to rewrite reality, a time traveller back from Chapter 4, and the biggest anime collab Fortnite has ever done.
This is a Theory story. We'll be clear about what Epic has actually confirmed, and what's our own reading of the clues.
What's actually confirmed?
Before the theory, here are the facts:
- One Piece is officially coming. Fortnite's X account posted a Going Merry teaser on 24 October that ends on the Fortnite and One Piece logos, as Outputlag reported. Read our full guide: when does One Piece come to Fortnite?
- The mini season is called Treasure Hunters, teased for 1 November, according to Endgame Tools.
- A short "One Piece Chest Story Moment" is listed for 31 October in Beebom's live event guide. Epic hasn't announced it officially yet.
- Geno is the season's villain. The Chapter 7 Season 4 story sees a squad of gaming legends teaming up to take him on, according to the Fortnite Wiki.
- Kado Thorne is back. Epic confirmed he has taken over Fortnite Reload's Nitemare Island for Fortnitemares, in its official Reload post.

Who is the Masked Man?
On 24 October, during an in-game story moment at around 7:30pm UK time, Epic showed players a teaser of a masked figure in a spiked coat, glowing against a wall of lights. Hotspawn also reported an in-game moment that day which played the collab's reveal trailer for everyone online. The Masked Man talks directly to the player:
- "You see my treasure chest."
- "Lucky for you, I know how to share."
- "Hope you're ready for reality's greatest treasure hunt."
Our theory: the Masked Man is the one who has been "pulling" the giant pirate chest into our island. Remember, the chest's on-screen tracker literally says "source: unknown reality". He isn't hiding the treasure: he's inviting treasure hunters from different realities to compete for it, which fits Treasure Hunters' pirate crews theme perfectly.
We don't know who he is yet. He could be a brand-new character, or a familiar face in disguise.
What does Geno want?
Geno is the villain behind this season's Override storyline, with a squad of gaming legends teaming up against him.
Our theory: Geno isn't just trying to take over the island. He wants to build a "perfect reality" of his own, where none of the old rules, systems or heroes can stop him. And while players are off on a treasure hunt in another reality, what is Geno doing back home?
Why Kado Thorne's time machine matters
Kado Thorne was the big villain of Chapter 4's Last Resort season. He used a time machine to travel through Fortnite's past and collect rare artifacts, according to the Fortnite Wiki.
Now he's back in Fortnite Reload, and that timing feels deliberate.
Our theory: if Kado repairs his time machine and tries to travel back to his glory days, it could malfunction while Geno is building his new reality. Instead of sending Kado backwards, it starts pulling places from Fortnite's past into Geno's world: Tilted Towers, then Chapter 2 locations, then Chapter 3 and 4 areas, all merging into one island.
Midas and the Device: Fortnite has done this before
Fortnite has a history of characters trying to control reality:
- In June 2020, Midas's Device pushed back the storm and turned it into a giant wall of water, which went on to flood the island for Chapter 2 Season 3, as PC Gamer reported.
- In December 2023, the Big Bang event ended Chapter 4's OG season by tearing the island apart and sending players across a multiverse of experiences, as Dexerto covered.
Our theory: if Midas-style technology, Kado's time machine and Geno's plans collide, the result could be the biggest reality shift since the Big Bang.
Is Chapter 8 secretly "Fortnite 2"?
Here's where everything comes together. A loading screen found by data miners shows Jonesy and Hope falling through a crack in reality, as Games.gg reported.
Our theory: Jonesy and Hope are searching for something powerful enough to stop Geno, perhaps a missing fragment of the Zero Point. If they're too late, Chapter 8 might not be a brand-new island at all. It could be "Fortnite 2": a single island built from every era of Fortnite's history, merged together in one live event.
Imagine watching Tilted Towers rise out of the water next to a Chapter 7 landmark during a live event.
What could prove us wrong?
- The live event could simply open the chest and start the mini season, with no hints about Chapter 8.
- The Masked Man could be tied only to the One Piece collab, not to Geno.
- Kado's return could just be a Fortnitemares one-off.
