In short

  • What it is: the Pirate Shop token gives you Pirate Shop access, which lets you claim eligible Item Shop cosmetics for free for 14 days.
  • How to get it: open chests in Battle Royale during Fortnite Treasure Hunters. It's an extremely rare drop, and it comes down to luck.
  • You get two goes: one 14-day period in 2026 and another in 2027, each starting when you choose.
  • What's left out: no gifting, no real-money offers, no pass levels or rewards, and only one free Sidekick that you don't already own.

Fortnite's Pirate Shop token is the rarest reward in the Treasure Hunters season. It turns up in Battle Royale chests, and if you find one, you can claim cosmetics from the Item Shop without spending V-Bucks for two weeks, then two more weeks next year. Here's how to get the Pirate Shop token, how to activate it and what it covers.

How do you get the Pirate Shop token in Fortnite?

Open chests in Battle Royale. Treasure Hunters brought new chests to Crossbones Isle, and most of what they hold is normal loot. Every so often, one of them drops Pirate Shop access instead, and you'll see a "You found Pirate Shop Access" banner on screen, as in our own gameplay above.

That's all there is to it. There's no quest to complete and no item to buy. Beebom reports that the chests that can drop it sit inside buildings at named locations, so landing at a named POI and opening every chest you see gives you the most chances.

VICE reports that if anyone in your party finds it, the whole party gets it. So playing in a full squad gives you up to four chances per match instead of one.

What are the Pirate Shop token odds?

Epic hasn't published a drop rate. Everything we've seen, from our own matches to VICE and Beebom, says the same thing: the chance is extremely small, and it's down to luck. We've looked at the estimates in how rare the Fortnite Pirate token is.

Epic's Treasure Hunters post says Treasure Hours Sundays bring "boosted drops" all season. Epic hasn't said whether that includes the Pirate Shop token, so treat it as a possible extra chance, not a guarantee.

Is the Pirate Shop token real?

Yes. It's an official Fortnite reward that you find in-game and activate in the Item Shop. You can't buy it, trade it or get it from a code.

Be careful of anyone online offering Pirate Shop tokens, codes or "free shop" accounts. The access is tied to your own account and can't be sent to anyone, so those offers are scams.

How do you activate Pirate Shop access?

Finding the token doesn't start your free period straight away. You choose when it begins:

  1. Go back to the Fortnite lobby and open the Item Shop.
  2. Select Plunder the Item Shop to see your Pirate Shop access.
  3. Choose Activate Now when you're ready to start your 14 days.
  4. Visit the shop during those 14 days and claim the cosmetics you want.

It's worth picking a good time to activate. Check what's coming up in the shop first, because the free period only covers what's on sale while it's running.

What does Pirate Shop access include?

Pirate Shop access lets you claim eligible Item Shop cosmetics for free during one 14-day period in 2026 and another 14-day period in 2027. That's four weeks of free shop items in total.

It doesn't hand you everything automatically. You still need to log in, open the shop and claim each item while it's there.

When do you have to use it?

Both Beebom and Destructoid report that the 2026 period must be activated by 15 December 2026, and that the 2027 period can be activated from 1 January 2027. They disagree on when the 2027 window closes, so check the Plunder the Item Shop screen in-game for your exact dates.

What can't you get with Pirate Shop access?
