In short
- Official odds: Epic hasn't published the chance of getting the Fortnite Pirate token.
- Best estimate: early reports put it at around 1 in 700,000 chests. That's unofficial and unproven.
- How many have found it: Epic hasn't shared a number. Only a handful of finds have been shared online so far.
- How long it lasts: 14 days from when you activate it, once in 2026 and once in 2027.
The Fortnite Pirate token is the rarest reward in Treasure Hunters, and nobody outside Epic knows the exact odds. It drops from chests in Battle Royale and lets you claim Item Shop cosmetics for free for two weeks at a time. Here's what we know about how rare the Pirate Shop token is, and what the numbers being shared online really mean.
What are the odds of getting the Pirate Shop in Fortnite?
Epic hasn't said. Neither its Treasure Hunters announcement nor the in-game Pirate Shop screen gives a drop rate.
The figure you'll see most is about 1 in 700,000. Content creator CrisCraft shared it on X as the "first reported odds", and Insider Gaming repeats it, crediting only "various sources". Neither explains how the number was worked out, so treat it as a rough guess, not a fact.
So what is the chance of getting the Pirate Shop in Fortnite? If the estimate is close, 1 in 700,000 is about 0.00014% per chest. Most players will never see one, however many chests they open.
How rare is the Fortnite Pirate token?
Very rare, but not impossible. Players have already found it in the first two days of the season, but far more are opening chest after chest and getting normal loot.
The best real example is an early winner called snowslept. TheClick.gg reports that they opened around 150 chests across three matches before Pirate Shop access dropped. That's one lucky player, not a sign that you'll get it within 150 chests.
Why do people disagree on how rare it is?
A few lucky finds make the token look common, while most players open hundreds of chests with nothing. Neither tells you the true rate. Only Epic has the numbers, and it hasn't shared them.
What are the chances of getting the Pirate token in Fortnite with a squad?
Better. Several outlets report that if one player in your party finds it, everyone in the party gets it. Insider Gaming calls this "allegedly" true, so it isn't confirmed by Epic.
If it's right, a full squad of four opening chests together has four times the chances of a solo player, and every one of you gets the reward.
Epic also says Treasure Hours Sundays bring "boosted drops" all season. It hasn't said whether that includes the Pirate token, so it might help, or it might only boost normal loot.
How many people have found the Pirate token in Fortnite?
Epic hasn't shared how many people have gotten the Pirate token. There's no official count, and no website can track it.
What we do know:
- The first widely shared find was in Solos, according to TheClick.gg, on the season's first day.
- Insider Gaming says "very few people" have gotten one so far.
- Party sharing means one find can unlock it for up to four players, which makes any count harder to guess.
If Epic shares a number, we'll add it here.
How long is the Pirate token in Fortnite?
Each Pirate Shop access lasts 14 days from when you activate it, and you get two of them. Fortnite's in-game screen says you can "plunder the Fortnite Item Shop – twice", once in 2026 and once in 2027.
- 2026: activate it before 15 December 2026, according to Insider Gaming. Your 14 days start when you press Activate Now.
- 2027: a second 14-day period you can use in 2027.
You don't have to use it straight away. It waits in the Item Shop under Plunder the Item Shop until you're ready.
What does the Fortnite Pirate token give you?
The in-game screen spells out the rules. For 14 days from activation, you can claim anything sold for V-Bucks in the Item Shop for free. It doesn't cover:
- Real-money offers
- Gifting to friends
- Pass levels or pass rewards
- More than one free Sidekick, and only one you don't already own
The token isn't transferable, so it stays on the account that found it. The screen also suggests turning on two-factor authentication to keep your account safe.
Is it called the Pirate coin or the Item Shop token?
They're the same thing. Players call it the Fortnite Pirate coin because it looks like a gold coin with an F on a compass. Others call it the Fortnite Item Shop token because it unlocks the shop. Epic's name for the reward is Pirate Shop Access.
What we don't know yet
- The real drop rate. The 1 in 700,000 figure isn't from Epic.
- How many players have found it.
- Whether Treasure Hours Sundays boost your chances.
- Whether party sharing is confirmed by Epic.
